Apple Grabs 71% of China’s Tablet Market

The new iPad and its smaller brother, the Mini is displaying its prowess by being the leading tablet in China even if it wasn’t even launched there yet. According to the latest statistical intel, for every four tablets sold three are manufactured by Apple.

This truly spells good news for Apple as it traverses the Chinese market. More specifically, the tablet division has been constantly improving with the annual tablet sales increasing by more than 60%. Added to that is the fact that starting the second quarter of the year, the tablet market has increased by 11%.

Following Apple at 10.52% is China’s very own, Lenovo. And according to the data, only Lenovo and Apple managed to get double digits as the other manufacturers were not even able to get 4% of the market.

October 23 Will be the Next Apple Event Date, says Reuters

Several days ago, AllThingsD  reported a very interesting bit of news. And that was about Apple and the event it will be hosting come October 23 for the announcement of the iPad Mini. Just about the same day, Jim Dalrymple of The Loop gave us his signature “Yep” when asked if the news is true. That pretty much confirms our speculations.

But now, Reuters provides its own credence to that news as they also confirmed the exact same date for the next Apple event. They didn’t really tell what the event will be about but it would be safe to say that it will be about the new slate.

Privacy Breach on iOS 6

A hidden feature of iOS 6 update has been uncovered.

IDFA or Identifier For Advertiser is one of the feature of the iOS 6 which Apple did not talk about. It was Apples’ feature from older models that has been remote because of users’ privacy issue. However, it was back on the iOS 6 update.

IDFA will assign series of numbers that will act like a cookie and track the app and web habits for the targeted ads. For advertisers view, it’s an advantage for them because they will be able to track if users’ web habits will lead on app downloads or purchase their services. Even though advertisers will not provide users’ information to anyone for iOS user, it is uncomfortable doing their staff when they knew someone is tracking their privacy. Thus, it is a privacy breach.

Apple understands their customers so they have provided them a way out from IDFA but it seems unnecessarily complicated. Here are the steps to do it.

• On your device, tap ‘Settings’.
• Tap ‘About’.
• Find ‘Advertising’ settings.
• From their turn ON ‘Limit Ad Tracking’. Turning it OFF will allow advertisers to track web or apps activities.

With the said option, it was confusing for some users if they will turn it Off or On and aside from that it was not place in “Privacy” which will make more sense if it’s there. As to the definition, it only says “Limit” so it’s not guaranteed that advertisers cannot track an iOS device since they can user another way of tracking the activities.

Apple said that as soon as all apps required an IDFA, users will have an option to eliminate tracking.

iOS 6 Clock Dispute Because of Copy Rights

The new clock design in iOS 6 was disputed by Swiss Federal Railway.

Swiss railway (SBB) said that the clock design has been their trademark ever since one of their employees designed it back in 1944. SBB went to Apple and told them that the design is theirs. It is hang in every train stations in the nation. The said clock design is the iOS 6 time piece.

As per Reto Kormann, SBB’s spokesman, that they were glad that a most successful company used their design to be iOS time piece. However, Apple did not ask permission. Thus violating SBB’s copyright.

Apple, on the other hand, accepted their fault and agreed to pay the license fee. Though the agreement is reach, Apple did not comment on the issue yet.

Strike at iPhone 5 manufacturing plant is not true says Foxconn

Apple requested an implementation of a stricter quality control which could be the reason of one irate employee beating one of the quality control inspectors. 

 

On Friday, 3,000 to 4,000 employees were allegedly left their post in Zhengzhou factory because of strict inspections from the quality control. It was said that most of the employees feel pressured on their work.

Foxconn views on the incident considered it minor disputes and did not delay the production of iPhone 5. In a statement emailed by Foxcoon to Reuters pointed out that the report of employee strike is inaccurate and there has been to stoppage of workplace. Therefore, Foxconn is still on time of its production. Foxconn also added that the disruptions happened last Oct 1-2 is a small matter and it was immediately addressed and measures had been taken accordingly.

Last Month, it was reported that there was a riot happened in Faxconn facility in Taiyuan, North China which required 5,000 police to calm the situation. It seems clear that it is not well inside the plant. Don’t you think?

iOS 6 Wi-Fi connectivity issues

Apple has been encountering a lot of issues with their new iOS update. One of these problems is the now trending issues in some technical forums like CNET.

Most of the users on iPhone that has iOS 6 are complaining about their Wi-Fi connectivity issues. They said that iOS 6 can connect to other networks but others can’t. According to one of the post on the said website, it cannot connect to a Netgear wireless router until it will be upgraded to the latest software. Another issue that was post on the forums is the AirPlay. This application was working fine before their iPod touch have updated to iOS 6.

Apple is known to determine the bugs and issues on their devices quickly in the past years. They can quickly provide bug-fixing software that will resolve any software issues.

Shipment of iPhone5 stolen from French Airport!

Just before the launch of the iPhone 5 in the Japanese market, 191 units of iPhone 5 were stolen from three stores. About a week ago, an entire shipment of 250 iPhone 5s (worth about £100, 000) was stolen by an employee of a London O2 store.

 

France experienced the same catastrophe on Tuesday, where there was a major iPhone 5 theft. There is no confirmation about the number of units stolen though it was a huge heist. The iPhone shipment was being loaded on a plane at Marignane airport when the whole event took place. Three armed robbers blocked the loading vehicle with two BMW’s. These gunmen continued and forced the driver to follow the two cars and a Renault Master that led the way.

About 10 kilometers down the road, the robbers stopped and offloaded the shipment, which also contain some Apple laptops, into another van. The airport truck was then set on fire and the robbers drove off!

Police are still investigating this crime.

Apple Maps dropped 4 percent usage

Along with the updates of new iOS 6 comes a disastrous Apple Maps on the Apples new smartphone model, iPhone 5.

According to Snappli, who is responsible for compressing data and video which help people stay within their limits, claims that before iOS 6 update, 25% of iPhone users are using Google Maps. Now that users installed iOS 6 update to their iPhone, Google Maps usage has reach up to 35% compared to the homegrown Apple Maps which is only 4%.

Tim Cook, Apple CEO, issued an apology to iPad, iPhone and iTouch users with regard to its Apple Maps application. He also suggested for users to use other Map carriers such as the Nokia Maps and the Google Maps while Apple techs are cleaning up the mess.

As Snapplis’ data, iThings users heed the advice which increases the download of other maps. However, since Snappli is just one source, the data does not equate for all the activity of downloading new different maps in iPhone.

iPhone 5 Shortage

Major U.S retailers such as Bestbuy, RadioShack and Target encountered iPhone 5 shortage. In some locations, retailers also experienced the same problem when they’ve received less than a dozen of iPhone 5 during its released a few weeks ago.

According to recent report, Apple distributed 5 million iPhone devices to it’s retailers for sale during the first week of its release. However, this massive numbers of devices still low from analysts predictions.

A possible cause of this shortage might be because of Sharp Manufacturer. Sharp is the supplier of Apple's displays. It was reported that Sharp was delayed on supplying the display. It was reported that they did not begin the production of iPhone 5 displays until the release of the smartphone earlier this month.

The new display of Apple cost $7 extra that the ones on the previous model. It is a half-inch longer and has an in-cell touch screen technology. This technology will merge the display and touch screen in one layer that will produce superior colors.

It seemed that Apple is experiencing a bumpy ride with their products this year. However, Apple still manages one million more sales on its first weekend of their iPhone 5 release.

iTunes get 10.7 update

Just after launching the iPhone 5, new iPod nano and iPod touch models, we expected Apple to lay off guard and watch the reviews of its unveiling event.

But Apple has more tricks in its sleeves than we expected and it has decided to launch the new update for iTunes on September 12th. It could not wait till the iOS 6 got launched in September 19th.  It has also released the Golden Master (GM) version of the OS to its creative developers.

The iTunes updates are expected to come with the new iPods and get a head start to work with the latest iOS 6 update.  It uses 165MB of storage and seems pretty good.

Apple has also released the final retail version of the iOS 6 for its developers. Although many iDevices have already used the iOS 6 Beta version, the iOS 6 GM developers can test their apps before the iOS 6 gets launched on September 19th.

Xcode 4.5GM was also released for all developers to make apps for iOS 6. The iOS 6 will work in most of Apple’s devices including the iPhone 5, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, new iPad, iPad 2 and also the fourth generation iPod touch.

Apple Seeking $3B From Samsung

Samsung was found guilty during the lengthy court battle with Apple.

Court denied the recent motion of Samsung to lift the U.S sales ban for Galaxy Tab 10.1 after they have announced that Samsung is guilty of multiple patent infringements from Apple Company. Samsung was said to have copied 5 out of 6 specs from Apple.

Now Apple was reportedly seeking for $3B dollars for the damages. Three times higher than what was recently announced which is $1.5 billion. Lucy Koh, the presiding judge for the case, has agreed to triple the damages which were requested by the Apple Company. Korean Times reported that Cupertino firm is set to return to court on Friday to make an appeal for more restitution.

Either the court will agree for the restitution or not, we will yet to find out this Friday. Stay tuned for more updates.

Apple EarPod HEADPHONES: Better fit and improved sound.

The new headphones from Apple were launched along with the shipping of the new iPod touch and the iPhone 5. Apple promised that it has a better fit and improved sound since the tunes will be pumped directly to the ear canal. For just $29 you can have this new EarPod, which according to Apple is nothing that we have ever seen. Apple said that it took three years to perfect the EarPods.

iFixit website tested this headphones durability. They opened the device and found out that the device is using a paper diaphragm over plastic from the previous model, which is not prone to tearing. They have also proven that the remote is properly sealed which is resistant to sweat or water damage. However, iFixit said that the innards are pretty similar with the others, which means that if it will broke down or damage it will no longer be fixed.

Well, it will take an experience to judge the durability. Since it cannot be fixed once its damage then better takes good care of it. After all it’s how the person uses it.

iOS 6 to have updates for navigation apps

Faster, stronger and much more powerful, are the words to define the latest iOS 6 which will be coming shortly. And with such quick processing, the iOS 6 is going to feature more apps.

The latest version of the iOS 6 will now directly give pop-ups for the Maps app on a bar on top of the screen no matter which app you will currently be using.

For instance, if we are going in a taxi to a specific destination while playing a game, then a bar would appear on the top of the screen and tell us automatically to make a turn in order to reach our destination.

Apple to use Nano SIM cards

As the Apple event came to an end, Apple never announced what type of SIM cards will be used. But as the question stimulated the curiosity of everyone, the Apple website confirmed the rumors that the iPhone 5 will be using nano SIM standard.

It’s not a surprise though, since the nano SIM cards were designed by Apple itself. It’s good to see that the iPhone 5 uses the nano SIM card efficiently.  If you are getting the latest iPhone then a draw-back will be that the micro SIM cards cannot be used in the iPhone 5 so you will have to hope and pray that your telecom operator has the new nano SIM cards.

700,000 Apps are Available in the AppStore

The iPhone 5 event ended with a big blast and Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, announced that there were over 700,000 apps which were available in the AppStore for download. He also confirmed that they were not just lying there useless, since 90% of the apps get downloaded at least once in a month.

The Apple AppStore is a well known site for apps and an average iPhone or iPad user has a minimum of 100 apps downloaded on their device.

The AppStore features apps for two types of iDevices- The iPhone and the iPad, and the iPad has over 250k apps which can be downloaded from the AppStore and the rest of them are for iPhone.
