Camera Shootout: iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S

iPhone5 boasts of a better and stronger 8MP camera than the iPhone 4S. However the point to be noted is that the iPhone5 is a thinner handset and camera is always a concern in such handsets.

iPhone5 camera is a slighter wider than the 4S (4.28mm Vs 4.13mm) however it should not make much of a difference.

In one of our previous post, iPhone 5 beats iPhone 4S in video stabilization. However, the latter captures finer details. Having said that, we are curious how the iPhone 5 will do in a camera shootout with its predecessor.  Let's find out below.

A comparison of several photos of iPhone 4S and iPhone5 indicates that the colors are more accurate in iPhone5 photos. However, it really takes an effort to spot the difference.

It also has better contrast and a slightly lower amount of noise, plus slightly better sharpness. iPhone5 also boasts of better color rendering.

The iPhone 5 camera module had to be 18% smaller than the one in the 4S to fit into the thinner phone. Apple has actually managed to get the most of its 8MP camera and that’s actually a great achievement.

However those carrying iPhone 4S should not worry as the handset still has one of the best cameras in the market.

Buy a Case If You Want To Own an Apple iPhone 5

Ever since the launch of this Apple iPhone5, there is a lot of noise about the various defects, the handset has.

The one is doing the rounds a while back is the chipping issue on the back panel. The anodized aluminum body is hurting the sentiments of a lot of affected users.

A scratch test also confirms that it is rather easy to peel off the paint of the brand new iPhone5.

iFixit released a video recently where the iPhone5 and iPhone 4S was tested with handles keys and metal rings and iPhone 4S seemed to handle it in a better than the much hyped iPhone5.

Check out the video.

So if you want to keep your sleek iPhone5 in good condition, do buy a case. But considering that the slim look of the pone is one of key features of iPhone5, isn’t this a compromise?

Nano-SIM cards for iPhone 5 in T-Mobile stores

iPhone users subscriber to T-Mobile can now get the Nano-SIM cards used on the iPhone 5.

Apple is not selling the iPhone 5 devices through T-Mobile however it allows T-Mobile subscribers to get Nano-SIM card through T-Mobile store for the unlocked iPhone 5 on its 4G HSPA+ network. The said SIM Card only started to show up just this weekend and it might not be available in U.S yet as per TmoNews.

If you wanted to use the card and login to T-Mobile’s network, your iPhone must be an unlock version already. A an unlocked iPhone 5 will cost $649(16GB), $749(32GB) and $849(64GB) and can be purchased directly from Apple Store or from carriers such as At&t and Verizon.

Since the iPhone 5 volume is smaller than that of the iPhone 4S, extra space are needed. Nano-SIM is the best sim card that suits iPhone 5. This Nano-SIM is 40% smaller than the micro-SIM card, and it’s the first to be used in a smartphone so it’s rare.

Nano-Sim is the official 4th form of factor SIM card as per European Telecommunications Standard Institute. Eventually, Nano-SIM will be easy to find but for now, would you get it or wait?

Are these boxes full of Apple iPhone 5 units?

How would you feel if you see boxes of iPhone5 falling and breaking in front of your eyes. Your heart will sink isn’t it?

iPhone5 has made headlines ever since its launch has been announced and not to mention  the long lines of people waiting in front of Apple stores in order to be the first ones to hold the much awaited phone.

Comparison of the Video Stabilization of the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S

During the unveiling of the iPhone 5 there was a lot of bragging from about the smartphone’s improved video stabilization. However, the predecessor iPhone 4S actually had a great video stabilization so there are concerns whether the new iPhone 5 will top that.

A test was done to determine which iPhone will have the best video stabilization. The test actually involves strapping the two devices on a stand so they both face the same type and amount of shakes.

Based from the test, the iPhone 5 has a wider viewing angle than the predecessor when it comes to recording videos. This will allow the users to fit more aspects in the frame. However, there are fewer pixels to describe each part of it.

The results reveal that the iPhone 5 actually produces steadier videos with the camera movement smoother with a very pleasing result. However, the iPhone 4S actually captures videos in a finer detail. For instance, it’s easier to read the signs and the video is actually sharper compared to the iPhone5.

Note that, both iPhone 5 and 4S utilize a digital video stabilization and not an optical one like that of the PureView 8MP snapper of the Nokia Lumia 920.

Battery Life issues for iPhone 5?

It seems the trend with the iPhone generation is very poor battery life. There has been complaints from users of the iPhone 5 of poor battery life which is quite similar to those which came up immediately after the release of the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and the iPhone 3GS. The question is, are users supposed to console and compromise with the battery life issues of the iPhone 5 just because the predecessors suffered the same fate?

The biggest issue however, is the fact that there is very little troubleshooting information from Apple yet so many users have complained about the battery life. However, there is just one thread from Apple Forums which is actually more of a self-help thread where users discuss amongst themselves without any useful feedback from Apple.

Looking at the self-help stories and suggestions to this particular issue, some of the solid information one can come up with regarding this issue has been summarized below.
  • First, the iPhone user can restore the iPhone in iTunes the regular way, but without restoring any backups (since it will carry over software bugs)
  • Let the iPhone go through a few battery cycles (that is let the battery drain out and charge it up completely a few times)
So try out a few of these suggestions and maybe you don’t have to get completely disappointed with the malfunctions of the newly released iPhone 5.

Strike at iPhone 5 manufacturing plant is not true says Foxconn

Apple requested an implementation of a stricter quality control which could be the reason of one irate employee beating one of the quality control inspectors.

On Friday, 3,000 to 4,000 employees were allegedly left their post in Zhengzhou factory because of strict inspections from the quality control. It was said that most of the employees feel pressured on their work.

Foxconn views on the incident considered it minor disputes and did not delay the production of iPhone 5. In a statement emailed by Foxcoon to Reuters pointed out that the report of employee strike is inaccurate and there has been to stoppage of workplace. Therefore, Foxconn is still on time of its production. Foxconn also added that the disruptions happened last Oct 1-2 is a small matter and it was immediately addressed and measures had been taken accordingly.

Last Month, it was reported that there was a riot happened in Faxconn facility in Taiyuan, North China which required 5,000 police to calm the situation. It seems clear that it is not well inside the plant. Don’t you think?

Apple updated Facebook messenger in iOS

All things can’t be bad with Apple iPhone 5 as they have released a new cool update with their Facebook Messenger App.

These updates will allow iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to swipe to the left to see their online contacts. Users can also prioritize their contact list, like their favorite friends at the top of online list. This can reduce a need to scroll down to see their favorite contact.

The messages on this Facebook messenger have been updated as well. The messages now appear as speech bubbles, just like the messages that you have received on your inbox.

This updated app is already downloadable from App Store.

Finally, the new iPhone 5 is here for a short review!

The latest iPhone from Apple is finally here. The iPhone 5 is completely different from the iPhone 4S in several aspects. For instance, it is thinner, lighter, and faster but it has a similar shape with its predecessor.

The handset is powered by an A6 chipset which makes it faster than iPhone 4S. With a sleek design and a magnificent aluminum finish, the device is simply spectacular. Though it actually doesn’t look or feel bigger than the iPhone 4S, it has a bigger display and very little changes with the iOS.

The A6 chipset makes all the applications in the phone faster such as loading pages while browsing, games and also the common built-in apps such as the Calendar etc.

Shipment of iPhone5 stolen from French Airport!

Just before the launch of the iPhone 5 in the Japanese market, 191 units of iPhone 5 were stolen from three stores. About a week ago, an entire shipment of 250 iPhone 5s (worth about £100, 000) was stolen by an employee of a London O2 store.

France experienced the same catastrophe on Tuesday, where there was a major iPhone 5 theft. There is no confirmation about the number of units stolen though it was a huge heist. The iPhone shipment was being loaded on a plane at Marignane airport when the whole event took place. Three armed robbers blocked the loading vehicle with two BMW’s. These gunmen continued and forced the driver to follow the two cars and a Renault Master that led the way.

About 10 kilometers down the road, the robbers stopped and offloaded the shipment, which also contain some Apple laptops, into another van. The airport truck was then set on fire and the robbers drove off!

Police are still investigating this crime.

iPhone 5: Faster in US than UK?

US iPhone 5 users must be pretty excited for the current news that has spread over the Internet. Apples iOS is apparently 1.3GHz versus the one that was published which was 1 GHz.

According to Primate Labs, the A6 chip runs 1.3GHz. This chip along with Apples updated GeekBench platform on the new iOS, made the iPhone 5 processor ran faster. However, for the UK iPhone, the chip used is a 1.1GHz dual-core processor even though the only difference that it has with the US iPhone 5 was the 3G and 4G frequencies.

Is this part of the flaws that Apple have? IPhone 5 users how’s your phone performed so far?

iPhone 5 Shortage

Major U.S retailers such as Bestbuy, RadioShack and Target encountered iPhone 5 shortage. In some locations, retailers also experienced the same problem when they’ve received less than a dozen of iPhone 5 during its released a few weeks ago.

According to recent report, Apple distributed 5 million iPhone devices to it’s retailers for sale during the first week of its release. However, this massive numbers of devices still low from analysts predictions.

A possible cause of this shortage might be because of Sharp Manufacturer. Sharp is the supplier of Apple's displays. It was reported that Sharp was delayed on supplying the display. It was reported that they did not begin the production of iPhone 5 displays until the release of the smartphone earlier this month.

The new display of Apple cost $7 extra that the ones on the previous model. It is a half-inch longer and has an in-cell touch screen technology. This technology will merge the display and touch screen in one layer that will produce superior colors.

It seemed that Apple is experiencing a bumpy ride with their products this year. However, Apple still manages one million more sales on its first weekend of their iPhone 5 release.

iPhone 5 scratches announced “Normal”

After viral social media posts and reports of iPhone 5 scratches and scuff straight from the box, Apple’s marketing VP said that it is normal.

iPhone 5 subscriber has waited until Friday to get the latest model of iPhone, only to be surprised! iPhone scuff revealed the aluminum slate of the device. One of the iPhone 5 users named Alex, emailed Apples’ Senior Vice President of Global Marketing to verify if Apple is planning to fix the iPhone 5 issue. To his surprise he received a seemingly unsympathetic reply. The reply stated “Any aluminum product may chip or scratch with use, exposing its natural silver color.”

iPhone 5 users also posted on MacRumors that this is not the only issues they have encountered on the latest model. They said that some handsets have leaking lights issue. It’s more visible on low light. Even replacements also have the same issues about scuffs and scratches.

Does Apple Company planned to leave it as it is? I hope not.

iOS 6 Released September 19th

The iOS 6 has been launched successfully with the cool new iPhone 5 and Apple has done a splendid job creating it. This OS was first shown in June 2012, as it announced that Apple won’t be partners with Google for the Google maps anymore and that the iDevices will have its own sets of maps, and other features including Passbook, Facetime over 3G, Facebook integration and Siri in the upcoming iPad 2.

Many Beta versions of the iOS 6 were released after the announcement and Apple again showed unwillingness to make a partnership with Google as it cancelled Google’s offer of pre installing the YouTube app, which now has to be downloaded from AppStore.

The iOS 6 supports most of the iDevices in use today. Apple has brought the update to iPhone 3GS and above for the iPhone series and the new iPad and iPad 2 for the iPad series and surprisingly, the update is also available for the fourth generation iPod touch.

The iPhone 5 has the iOS 6 already installed in it and all other devices by Apple, by now, should already update as the iOS 6 update was released on September 19th. The iPhone 5 was released on September 21st.

On the back hand, if you have an iPhone 3G or older, or the iPad original, you will not get the latest iOS6 update. So it’s a good time to start saving for an iPhone 5!

iPhone 5 Pre-Orders

iPhone 5 was on the 21st of September and ever since it has been unveiled, all loyal Apple customers are waiting to get their hands on the new iOS 6 iPhone 5.

The pre-orders started from September 12th, but Apple delayed it, making Apple fans more eager for this amazing device. The pre-orders was shifted to September 14th.

According to the latest news, we have gathered hot news that pre-orders for the iPhone 5 has created a big boom for Apple, as there is a big shortage for all the online centers selling the iPhone 5. They say that pre-orders go way over their expectations, and now they are looking back at Apple to supply them with more iPhone 5s to meet the people’s demands.

Online centers have increased the number of staffs just in case things turn into a chaos.

Along with iOS 6, the iPhone 5 was predicted to be one heck of a blast for Apple and that it will give it a good share in the smartphone market. With all the apps and the elegant slim design, the iPhone 5 is presumed to surely have a big impact for Apple, and also other smartphone manufactures. But with the numerous problems that Apple face with the iPhone 5 such as the scratches on the brand-new-straight-out of-of the-box iPhone 5 and not to mention the disastrous mapping service, do you think this prediction will still come true? And will the demand for the iPhone 5 decrease because of these problems? What do you think?

iTunes get 10.7 update

Just after launching the iPhone 5, new iPod nano and iPod touch models, we expected Apple to lay off guard and watch the reviews of its unveiling event.

But Apple has more tricks in its sleeves than we expected and it has decided to launch the new update for iTunes on September 12th. It could not wait till the iOS 6 got launched in September 19th.  It has also released the Golden Master (GM) version of the OS to its creative developers.

The iTunes updates are expected to come with the new iPods and get a head start to work with the latest iOS 6 update.  It uses 165MB of storage and seems pretty good.

Apple has also released the final retail version of the iOS 6 for its developers. Although many iDevices have already used the iOS 6 Beta version, the iOS 6 GM developers can test their apps before the iOS 6 gets launched on September 19th.

Xcode 4.5GM was also released for all developers to make apps for iOS 6. The iOS 6 will work in most of Apple’s devices including the iPhone 5, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, new iPad, iPad 2 and also the fourth generation iPod touch.

Apple’s Latest A6 Chipset

The latest chipset by Apple, the A6 Chipset, is used in the elite smartphone- iPhone 5. But in the iPhone 5 event, Apple provided us with very little information about this new chipset, so we decided to do speculate.

All we know is that the A6 chipset has a 2x faster processor and 2x better graphics than the A5 chipset. They did not mention the core count, the clock speed or even the architecture of the A6 chipset.

Since the iPhone 5 has an LTE support, which is uniquely available in just the iPhone 5 as Apple announced, this tells us that it will not have a quad-core chipset.  By chance, if it did have a quad-core, then Apple would have announced it on the event. Since the A5 chipset is dual-core, and Apple never announced that the new chipset has a quad-core processor, and then we can be sure that the A6 chipset does not have any quad-core processor.

So the quad-core option is no more available and this leaves us to 3 dual-core processors.
  • Dual-core Krait processor
  • Dual-core processor made like the latest Cortex A15 architecture
  • Dual core Cortex A9 chip, which is clocked somewhere between 1.5-2.0 GHz
Over clocking the A5X chipset might not give us 2x in performance, so an overclocked A5 chipset is not a viable option.

Dual-core Krait processor is a good option, since Krait processors have been proven to be 2x faster than as the Cortex A9 dual-core chips, much like the A5 chipset. It has the capability of being fast and gives good performance. The Krait processor is being used as a processor in many smartphones available in the market. But Apple is all about uniqueness (which is why it sued Samsung), and since the Krait processor is being used by so many phones, we can make out the fact of why Apple decided not to tell us anything about the processor itself.

Now at last but not the least, the Cortex A15 architecture. Well, this chipset has the potential to bring lots of upgrades, and talking about uniqueness, the iPhone 5 will be the first phone to use this chipset. On the other hand, if the iPhone 5 did include the Cortex A15 chipset, then Apple would have used this as a topic and probably made a big deal out of it in stage, because this processor has the power to surpass the Samsung Galaxy phones and also the HTC One X.

Still, after all the digging and researching, it’s highly likely that the dual-core Krait processor is being used inside the iPhone 5. If this is the chipset, then there is a high possibility that it has an Adreno 305 GPU and 1 GB RAM, which are the unknown facts about the new iPhone 5. We hope that our guess is right, or at least we’ll just have to wait for Apple to tells us all about the unknown facts about the iPhone 5.

Jailbreak of iPhone 5 happened a day after its release.

Grant Paul, who uses an online handle “chpwn”, is a renowned iPhone safe-cracker. Apparently, he already cracked the iPhone 5. He posted photos of his smartphone running the Cydia store, which is an online store that features apps that is not authorized by Apple. The image came with a caption "Taller screens like Cydia too. :)".

This post did not pass skeptics. They doubt that the photos had been Photoshopped which made Mr. Paul, to post other photos in which one of the pictures shows his iPhone 5 has a Cydia app store open and while the other photo shows the Cydia store running on the iPhone itself.

With these photos and news of jail breaking iphone 5 spread out, many iPhone users are eager to get away from homegrown App Store and unlock themselves through jail breaking. However, Grant Paul did not post the steps on how to unlock the iOS 6 just yet.

Well, if you plan on jail breaking your iPhone device then you should know that it means goodbye warranty.

iPhone 5’s imperfections

More and more people are posting photos of their handsets and complaints on social media sites and other message boards that most of the iPhone 5 has damages straight from the box. There were pictures of iPhone 5 posted over the Internet with scratches out of the box and some has mark on the lower back or other part of the device.

Users are complaining that the new anodized aluminum body of iPhone 5 is prone to scratches and scuffs. They have concluded that the coating of the aluminum is soft which sometimes revealed the slate beneath it.

Apple is yet to comment on the issue. Hopefully iPhone 5 issues are not a repeat of iPhone4s’ antennagate issue which prompted Apple to provide free plastic bumpers to its users.
